Rocky Mountain Road Trip

Monday, May 31st, 2010

This was a very, very short trip – one day of driving, four days of working 12 hour shifts at the Calgary University Campus / Calgary Speed Skating Oval during the Canadian West Volleyball Open, then one day off in Banff followed by a 5am start back to Whistler.  A mere 13 hour drive!

We were lucky with the weather in that at least we could see the Rocky Mountains.  It was spectacular albeit not necessarily phenomenally photogenic.

I took a few photos of these dandelion clocks before switching to the top-down view.

Nina & Jamie May 15th 2010

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Nina and Jamie were married in the Catholic Sacred Heart Cathedral in Kamloops.  It was a beautiful ceremony with some of the wedding guests singing solos.  One one of the hottest May 15ths that Kamloops has ever seen the coolness of the Cathedral was welcome.  The reception followed at the South Thompson Inn and Conference Center where a breeze from the river was also very refreshing.

These are a few of my favourite images from the day, and you can also view the couple’s on-line gallery here.

365 Project – Day 226

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Today I volunteered at Whistler’s Kids of Steel Triathlon and adult “Try a Tri” race.  This lady won gold in her age category and was clearly very pleased with herself.

365 Project – Day 218 – 225

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

In the last week I have driven 13 hours to Calgary and back.  I was there as part of a team of photographers shooting the Canadian West Volleyball open.  There wasn’t much time for photographs and no internet access, hence this late post.  I should be back on track now.

365 Project – Day 217

Friday, May 28th, 2010

On route from Whistler to Calgary Emily and I stopped to take in the first real view of the Rockies.  Emily had just bought a new Nikon D700 and various lenses.  She was very happy:

365 Project – Day 214, 215 & 216

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

I’ve been busy.  Too busy to post every day but I have been taking photos on time, although today I only had 10 minutes left before midnight!  It’s a dreadful photo but my self imposed rules didn’t say anything about image quality!

Off to Calgary for week now, so unlikely to post again until I get back.

Retro ski day with the Coasties

Monday, May 17th, 2010

This was our end of year party and since we were all dressed up in 70′s gear I decided to bring my 70′s camera – a Canon A1.  Looks like the film was about the same age which adds a certain authenticity to the shots, I think.

365 Project – Day 213

Monday, May 17th, 2010

Ok, so it’s only a duck, but when using this lovely lens on a beautiful clear lake it looks very pretty anyway!

Just a duck!

365 Project – Day 212 – First Dance

Sunday, May 16th, 2010

This was the first dance for Nina and Jamie, a lovely couple now living in Vancouver but who grew up in the Kamloops area.  Their ceremony was at the very lovely Sacred Heart Cathedral, followed by a reception at the South Thompson Inn.
