365 Project – Day 117 Austria Passive House

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Green technology at it’s best and just one of the legacy items from the Vancouver 2010 winter Olympic Games in Whistler is Austria House.

“The heart and lung of Austria House, as this is the system that allows it to breathe, stay warm and circulate the hot water it produces through its veins in both floors. It’s the drexel und weiss aerosmart heating and ventilation unit, that pulls warm air from the ground, heats it through a sophisticated and highly efficient technique, heats water with it, pumps the heated water through both floors and freshens and replenishes the air for this 3,000 square foot house, every two hours. It also heats the water for all other domestic uses.”

365 Project – Day 116

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

More Olympification of Whistler village with RCMP officers stationed all around.  This one was on her way home, but I thought that a gun on a bus was kind of funny.

365 Project – Day 115

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Again I managed to get out of work early enough to catch Whistler Blackcomb’s fire and ice show.  During the Olympic Games it will run every night at 9pm.  Perhaps I’ll manage to get a good shot of a skier instead of a snowboarder but it’s hard shooting from the crowd (that’s my excuse anyway!).

The fire and ice show will be on every night from Feb 13th - 28th

365 Project – Day 114

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

This photo of the half pipe in the terrain park on Blackcomb shows just how big it is.  And it’s in perfect condition – shame that the Olympic half pipe event will be held in Vancouver.

Let the Games Begin!

With the Olympic torch arriving in Whistler today the crowds were huge and the excitement mounting.  Barney Bentall played in the Village Square before the torch arrived.  Awesome!  Just 6 days to go.

365 Project – day 112

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Another busy day getting ready for the Olympics, so I took this photograph while waiting for the bus:  With nearly all of the parking lots in town now closed the bus is the only real option for getting around.

365 Project – Day 111

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

I went skiing but the only photo I liked was this one of a large snow duck at the top of the Peak Chair.  Ducks at that location are becoming a tradition.  The skiing was great too!

365 Project – Day 110

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

I’ll admit I was short of a subject/shot and short of a camera today.  So this was shot with my boyfriends camera, no flash, just high ISO.  It’ll do for today and for us is reminiscent of our vacation to Bruges where all the Belgians do is drink beer.

365 Project – Day 109

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

I know, it’s more than one photo, but it is just one subject – a tour of the Whistler Olympic Media Center which goes into lock-down at midnight tonight.  Not that I could have got into it today as you can see.
