Day 106 of my project is just 13 days away from the Opening Ceremonies of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Here in Whistler (the Host mountain resort) the “Olympification” of the town is on a way grander scale than I ever imagined it would be. This photo shows the installation of the stage at Celebration Plaza where athletes will receive medals and where there will be live music every night.

The passion for hockey is high, particularly so in the thousands of local leagues. This game had several bouts of fisty-cuffs and lots of chirping. The Grillers won 4-3 to maintain their division lead.
Here are a few of my favourites, or you can view the full album here.
Back to work and less inspired today, but I managed to capture this shot of the trees outside my patio, !st thing in the morning. Although there has been record snowfall in Whistler this year it is mostly up high and not much on the trees in the valley.

This was from a long overdue shoot with my friend Yves, a rep for Rossignol. He needed some shots of him in action to keep them happy! This shot probably won’t cut it, but I liked it because it was abstract (and I just learned how to use the flash to compensate for the harsh sun).

I like the somewhat abstract nature of this portrait
On a quick visit with my friend Meg, I noticed that she had two huge bowls of corks – ready to make a cork board. “Shot of the day” I said!

With the Olympics just 19 days away the preparations in Whistler are ramping up: banners and wraps everywhere. Massive tents, the likes of which you’ve never seen. Even with the hassles, it still feels as though the excitement is brewing:

The excitement is building!
Local A league hockey players – The Mongolie Grillers vs Maxx Fish – battle it out. It was a feisty game with at least three fights and one game suspension – you really see the passion for hockey at this level: No million dollar contracts, no TV time outs, just raw hockey for the fun of it.

100 days already! I’ve learned so much by doing this project. The lesson for today was if you take photographs of snowboarders make sure you which is their back and their toe side (sorry Sal, all I shot was your bum!).
