365 Project – Day 76 Green Olympics

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I can only think of one reason why these Olympic Rings, at the grand stand area of the Dave Murray Downhill ski run on Whistler Mountain, are green:  I can only think that they represent a “Green” ie eco-friendly Olympics.  Seems somewhat unlikely given the number trees they have cut down to install housing, ski jumps, parking, celebration plaza’s, Nordic ski runs etc for the Games in Whistler.  Perhaps the least ‘green’ thing is the bobsled track, slated to be the second largest ammonia storage area in North America.  Cool to watch, but green?,  I don’t think so.

Whatever you may think, though, there’s something cool about the Olympics and like a child, my boyfriend Rob just had to climb into the rings for a photograph!

365 Project Day 75

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

With the Olympics coming to town in February the local organizing committee (VANOC) have funded exceptional tree lights all the way through Whistler. They’re certainly eye catching:

365 Project – Day 74

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

This is a photograph of Creekside, Whistler, showing the Dave Murray downhill ski run (far left as you look at the screen).  This will be used for the downhill ski races in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games in February this year.  I’ll be sitting on the stands cheering for the Canadian women!

This is a photo of one of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games mascots:

“Quatchi is a young sasquatch who comes from the mysterious forests of Canada. Quatchi is shy, but loves to explore new places and meet new friends”.

Winter Sunset in Whistler

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

These are the views of Whistler, Blackcomb and surrounding mountains as seen across Green Lake.  Many tourists never get to see these views, but the locals were out in force on this sunny Boxing Day afternoon.  I love the sunsets in Whistler in the winter.  It’s hard not to take a million photos.

Cross country skiing with my dog Zeus along the Rainbow Park to Meadow Park trail, we crossed the River of Golden Dreams.  Looked like a perfect winter wonderland:

365 Project – Day 71 – Christmas Dinner

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Santa brought me two light stands and a backdrop bar so I needed to test at least one of the stands – one flash off camera, bounced off the ceiling gives the photograph quite a lot more depth than straight flash on-camera:

The snow today was still a little firm but up on Flute Mountain, higher up, it was pretty nice.  This is Rob making some turns on Flute Shoulder with the Spearhead Range in the background.

365 Project – Day 68

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Black Tusk is the core of a volcano apparently having erupted under ice.  It is probably one of the most photographed mountains in this area – for obvious reasons.  This is a somewhat unusual view of it, however, taken from Function Junction.  It’s a peak that you can climb relatively easily in the summer.
