365 Project – Day 324

I have no idea how anyone rides this bridge over the river in “A River Runs Through it”. I can barely walk across, yet my friend Greg rode it over and over again for me to take photos. Rob also rode it for the first time in years (Kodak courage!), but his face was covered by the rope so this is Greg:

It was a nasty cold day that didn’t belong to summer at all. 10˚C in the village, freezing and snowing at the Roundhouse. Doesn’t seem to stop the mountain bikers in the Bike Park.

Yes! Day 300! Seems like quite the marker but alas, there’s still more than two months to go. Anyway, today’s shot was of Ryan Leech with the Norco Factory Team doing his crazy stunts in Whistler Village. It’s a little hard to see but he’s just ridden a 6′ long round rail, and is just about to jump off the end of it. Oh! and he’s about 4′ up.

Tantalizingly close the the 300 day mark! This is day 299 – part of the Crankworx Festival in Whistler, this racer came hurtling over the GLC drop. I really don’t know how they do it!

Another photo shoot with Rob. This time on “Danimal” – a black trail off Stonebridge Road, which is off Alta Lake Road (aka “Westside Road”). Rob patiently rode and re-rode the features for me so that I could get a good angle. Turned a 30 min ride into an hour and a half!

The last two photos were taken on a different day and were easier to take as the weather was overcast so no “hot spots” where the sun was breaking through the trees.

This mountain biking trail is well known by locals and foreigners alike – we met several of both during our ride. Rob makes all the stunts look easy. Me, not so much! Thankfully Rob’s pretty good with the camera so managed to get a couple of shots of me on just about the only stunt I could manage.

Temporary tube park at the Roundhouse

Whistler’s snow pack is still so high that the management decided to put a temporary tube park in at the Roundhouse. At 2,200 feet this is tubing with a view! They’re only charging $5/ea for as many runs as you want. There isn’t a lift though – you have to hike for your fun.

You can see the snow depth as Rob (6′4″) stands on a cleared road literally just outside the Roundhouse.

Wet, wet, wet – that’s what it’s been in Whistler recently. Doesn’t seem to bother the mountain bikers taking advantage of Whistler Blackcomb’s extensive mountain bike park.
