Trooper and Loverboy play at the Whistler Olympic Plaza

It was a wet, cold and frankly miserable night but that didn’t stop 500 or so Loverboy and Trooper fans from heading out to Whistler’s awesome Olympic Plaza for a great show. The plaza pavillion is totally undercover so once the fans were in they could dance and sing to their hearts content – and they did!

I was there to document not so much the bands themselves as the venue and the lighting. It was a fun shoot, and I’m more and more impressed every time I go.

Whistler Olympic Plaza

I was commissioned by the RMOW to shoot images of their great new venue – the Whistler Olympic Plaza. This was the first time they had showcased their winter outdoor/indoor set up. With a small stage at the rear they can accommodate up to 600 standing viewers, or they can put in a set of chairs for a more formal arena. With two large green rooms, amazing lighting and sound set up, lounge areas, a fireplace and concession area, this really is one of my favourite legacies from the Olympics. Love it!

Colin James in Whistler

Colin James played live and with free admission last night as part of the “Whistler Presents” summer concert series at the Olympic Medals Plaza. He was awesome and the crowd was large and having fun. I just love that classic R & B sound!

Wizard of Oz by Stagecoach Theatre Arts

This year’s end of term production by Stagecoach Theatre Arts for the Commercial Drive and Kitsillano schools was “The Wizard of Oz”. It was adapted by Hilary Smith, the owner / operator of Stagecoach Canada to fit in with the schools differing ages and abilities. Interest was so high from parents and grand parents that they had to do two performances on Saturday and another on Sunday. The “Cultch” Theatre was packed for all three performances!

Christmas concert in Haute-Nendaz

Having not much else to do and being somewhat interested anyway, I slip-slided my way down to the local church this evening to see a performance of a Christmas concert, played by a 30 piece local brass band. It was really very good. All the announcements were in French, of course, so I understood about one word in 20 but I did hear the announcement that they would be serving “vin chaude” – mulled wine – afterward. Of course I had to sample that! T’was a merry time – Merry Christmas to one and all!

Stage Coach Vancouver November Classes

Almost towards the end of the first semester the children at the Vancouver Commercial Drive and Kitsillano schools were getting ready for their mid year show to parents. Acting, singing and dancing but most of all having fun.

Four days of crazy hippie shenanigans, with music, fun, new friends and a tiny bit of alcohol. It’s hard to pick the ‘best’ photos from the weekend but the following are a few that to me, represent the festival perfectly.

Canada Day in Whistler lasted for three days this year in an attempt to re-live the Olympic experience. It was fun, but the weather was bad. The highlight for me was in seeing Delhi to Dublin play again. As their name suggests, it’s a mixture of Irish fiddling with Indian drum and sitar, with some DJ stuff thrown in. Awesome music and super fun to watch.

This is one of the actors in the Commercial Drive Stage Coach year end show. Held at “The Cultch” it was great to see the kids (aged 3-16) on stage in a real theater.
